Mindfulness and Noticing

By Ken Giglio, Principal of Mindful Leadership

Mindfulness is more than meditation. Mindfulness is a way of living and leading by paying attention non-judgmentally from moment to moment. Working with our intentional attention is a practice we can do both in meditation and in our day-to-day activities. The aim is to remember to be present, which is the literal meaning of mindfulness.

A solid starting point is the practice of noticing. As the psychologist R.D. Laing reminds us, “the range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice.” To be more mindful, consistently ask yourself as you go about your day, what am I noticing?
