Mindfulness in the Present Moment

By Ken Giglio, Principal of Mindful Leadership

Mindfulness in leadership, or Mindful Leadership as we like to call it, is often misunderstood. In short, being a mindful leader means being awake and aware of what is happening in the moments they are happening. Its simple, and its difficult. Imagine listening so attentively to a colleague as they talk about a difficult customer interaction that you can pick up the frustration edging toward anger in the tone of their speech.

Being present, you see their furrowing brow and their tightening jaw. Your colleague is struggling, and you are paying attention and listening, mindfully. You can then acknowledge how difficult this must have been for them, showing empathy before you offer coaching or guidance. Your relationship is stronger because you took a mindful approach in the moments that were happening as they happened.
